No one ever looks good...

Updated 03/27/2009 – 11:36 am

...in a mug shot!

And certainly the Southampton Town Police Department did no one any favors for their arraignment photos this week!

Definitely not with my (temporarily former) backyard neighbor George Guldi...

...m'Gawd, the man looks like former Panamanian despot Manuel Noriega!

And before anyone grouses that I'm kicking George when he's down, they don't know him very well! No one would laugh harder at the Noriega association than George. He has always had a remarkable ability to defuse criticism with that great braying guffaw of his.

I don't have any special insights into what happened here, and I wish the man the best.

But an ol' adage of my mom's echos from the past:

"You lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas."

Good luck, George!

The NYLJ's view...

We knew it was a natural for the New York Law Journal to get in on this.

After Arrest, Attorney Claims Standing to Challenge Law Office Raid

"Now that a lawyer has been arrested in connection with a bizarre real estate fraud that allegedly recruited straw buyers at a dominatrix club, he has standing to challenge the warrant that authorized a raid on his law office last month, his attorney said yesterday."

It would seem that this was what Mr. Guldi and his Manhattan-based attorneys, Kathy Huang and John Diffley, were awaiting after Suffolk County Supreme Court Justice Jerry Garguilo declined to vacate the warrant he had signed which allowed District Attorney Thomas Spota's investigators to seize 49 boxes of files belonging to Mr. Guldi and his office partner, Thomas McVann.

Judge Garguilo based his decision on his reasoning that Mr. Guldi's application "was not ripe" because he had not yet been arrested.

Now he has, and the lawyers are earning their fees.

One significant but likely over-looked point in the NYLJ article...

"Mr. Spota said the investigation was conducted by a mortgage fraud unit he established in June 2008. To date, the unit has been responsible for 34 arrests."

Ahhhhhh! Just so... but how many convictions, Mr. D.A.?

My God he does look like the Panama dictator!!!

Amazing.

Yes, you are right to ask - 34 arrests - convictions???

Priceless!

I am always wary of anything uttered at political press conferences.

Come on, Mr. Wizard... that's the best you can do. I knew that Rx was no good. You need progressives.... Jabba the Hut!!! Warmest regards, Counselor Guldi... never know when things can come back and bite you in the ass.

Feel the love... ice cold beer.... Jerry

And speaking of "Rx," you'd better get back on yours
