'Say WHAT?' Again!

Garry McCarthy

And as it did last week, it again emanates from Chicago, this time from Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy on a Sunday morning taped interview show.

(As opposed to "live" where those who stick a foot in their mouth have no rewind and edit capability to cover their gaffes.)

McCarthy, who in the past has blamed "government-sponsored racism" and Sarah Palin for Chicago's plague of gun violence... 500 deaths in 2012 and another 42 last month... now opines that firearms rights and Second Amendment organizations are guilty of corruption.

"If there was special interests affecting police work, I believe that would be called corruption. So, if it has do with donating money versus a popular vote, I think we have a bigger problem in this country and somebody's gotta wake up to that."

McCarthy also thinks that judges and legislators should rely on public opinion polls when interpreting the Constitution.

The question arises, who vetted this man before he was brought in to run the Chicago Police Department from Newark, New Jersey?

(His track record there was far from stellar!)

Little wonder that the patron saint of desperate cases and lost causes, Saint Jude, has been adopted by the Chicago Police Department.

I always get a kick out of these NYPD alum who go on to be a big fish in a small pond, seemingly by virtue of their NYPD background alone. Apparently politicians in other towns who hire police administrators are oblivious to the fact that the Peter Principle thrives in NYPD, as it does in many other organizations. Why politicians think New York City is immune from it is not only dumbfounding but hilarous to me... as somebody who worked for New York City government.

Yeah... the names McNamara, Kerick and Biaggi come to mind.

From Newark to Chicago and calling out corruption? I'm a fan of irony. He should at least recognize it by now.

Well said!
