After Action Report...
...on the Westhampton Rotary Club's 18th Annual Spaghetti Dinner at the Immaculate Conception CCD Center on Quiogue.
And since an immoderate number of local Rotarians made pointed remarks about OtBB's critical comment...
"...it was as if someone had just heated up some cans of Chef Boy Ar Dee."
...on a prior event1, I feel obliged to address that issue.
To borrow from Hemingway, "It was good."
The event seemed to be well-attended...
(Smart decisions by both opponents, Bridget Fleming and Billy Hughes, in the upcoming special election, to attend and press the flesh. M'Gawd!, the lady from out East was even observed smooching a baby!)
...'though sales of raffle tickets for the 52-inch Samsung Flat Screen HiDef TV seemed to be sluggish2.
But the spaghetti3 was good, the meatballs... courtesy of Brian Crouse of Sunset Court Deli... were terrific and daringly spicy, and the grated cheese plentiful rather than rationed.
Good show, Westhampton Rotary!
- One member confided, herkos odonton, that this was one of the reasons Rotary had switched venues!
- It's the economy, stupid!
- It could have been a tad more al dente... nearly impossible when preparing pasta for so many... but fortunately the sauce wasn't orange as it had been during my prior Rotarian experience in the late '90s!

The dinner was a rousing success – many thanks to all involved and to the community for coming out to show their support.
One thing I didn't "get," though... cold bottles of beer were $3.00 (cheaper than most bars in the area) and cups of soda pop were a most reasonable $1.00. But bottles of non-designer water for $2.00???

We'll keep trying to work the bugs out. After many years of utilizing Todd Jacobs' facilities and staff at the B&T, this year's event was a great experiment which will be tuned up prior to next year. We certainly appreciate the plugola and the review.
But then, there were lots of people with whom to visit while we waited... it was a nice community event.
