It is with considerable sadness that I report that neighbor, friend and one-time political foe Ted "Bobby" Conklin, 14th Mayor of Westhampton Beach, has passed away in Boca Grande, Florida.
Mr. Conklin was retired as the Executive Vice-President of the T.E. Conklin Brass and Copper Company of Hudson Street in New York, a business founded by his grandfather Theodore E. Conklin.
He served as Village Mayor from 1982-84.

Wow. Y'all just channeled Upton Sinclair, MFK Fisher, Jamaica Kincaid, and Poppa Hemingway in two blog entries and half-a-dozen Comments. I clearly need to move back there immediately to soak up the culture that I've so missed.
Not to get all Proustian on you, but in the '60s and '70s, A&P smelled liked the Eight O'Clock Coffee from the grinders at each cashier's aisle. The only time that anything ever smelled spoiled was the result of a dairy container misfortune in the parking lot. More...

The smart money had a payday tonight... a small one, but a payday none the less as North Carolina handled Michigan State with relative ease.
While the outcome was no more a portent of future economic developments than the actions of Punxsutawney Phil might affect the duration and severity of Winter, there is no joy in Michigan... outside of Joe Louis Arena. of course.

Will we ever know?
