I have been asked to distribute this..

On Thursday, 1 May, the WHB Board of Trustees is going to vote on a proposition to create an "eruv" that will allow the Jewish people to pass through people's property on their way to temple. It will be designated by plastic markers on telephone poles.

The problem is that it is the beginning of a "push" by the rabbi to create another Tenafly or Lawrence. Shopkeepers have already been asked rather strongly to please close their stores on Saturday.

If we inundate the Mayor with e-mails, we can perhaps forestall a vote on Thursday. This vote has not been posted on the WHB website, and smacks of back-room politics that exclude the summer, tax-paying residents.

A great deal of wildly inaccurate information, and I'm surprised that Erin would carry someone else's water on this… especially without confirming the elements of her E-message.

This just in.....It seems that email can be very convincing in numbers!

There will be no vote on the subject this Thursday, although there will probably be quite a bit of discussion.

There will however be a special meeting held to discuss the issue on May 28th at 7:00. village hall.

The "1 May vote" wasn't postponed… there was never a vote on the eruv scheduled for that day.

Any messages sent to that E-dress Ms. Finley provided were likely reported to the Mayor, but the only person who was inundated was Village Clerk Kathy McGinnis. (Note the actual "clerk@" part of the E-dress... in police work, that's called a "clue.")

To all concerned...

I apologize if there were any inaccuracies in the email regarding the eruv. I do however believe that there is quite a bit of truth in the information as well. Regardless, as I prefaced in the email I was asked to pass the information along. Something I am asked to do on a consistent basis. Something I have no problem doing. I did not compose the email I simply distributed it. I do however think it warrants addressing. I have read quite a bit on the subject and I am still uncertain as to it's{sic} involvement of personal property over public. I have contacted the village office and I've been assured that their intention was never to hide the issue or attempt a vote in secrecy. Regardless it's an individuals view and up to all other individuals to familiarize themselves with the situation and form their own opinion. I can appreciate everyone's opinion, including the individual who felt strongly enough to wish this to be disseminated. I have heard from dozens of people, mostly positive feedback and some negative feedback. The bottom line is that we should all have a voice in this village, especially on issues that affect the climate of our village. I myself am thankful that this was brought to my attention and the attention of others if for no other reason then for me to do my due diligence in discovering the full truth of the matter. I have had several emails referencing villages that have allowed this process and what it eventually led to. I am a proud proponent of diversity and I would like to see it continued in our village. With that being said I thank you all for your emails both to me and to the mayor. I hope all interested parties will attend the meeting on the 28th, listen to the facts and come to their own conclusions.

I thank you all for your time

Sincerely
Erin

Fortunately Ms. Finley spoke with someone knowledgable and forceful enough to get her to back off the "tin-foil underwear" paranoia someone fed to her.

For everyone's sake, it is to be furiously hoped that some of the more lunatic assertions contained in the original E-mail aren't too widespread in the area.
